Job Summary:

College Medical Center Phoenix is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Financial Counselor to join our team. This position is responsible for monitoring the quality assurance of all patient accounts related to registration. The Financial Counselor ensures timely verification of benefits, provides patients with information about any out-of-pocket expenses, and assists with billing or payment inquiries. The role also includes monitoring daily point-of-service (POS) collections, accurately logging all potential cash transactions, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Minimum of three (3) months of experience in patient registration or a closely related field and/or completion of courses in medical billing and coding, medical administrative assisting, or experience in another related College Hospital department
  • Ability to communicate and interact tactfully and harmoniously with patients, guests, and various hospital departments
  • Maintains a professional image and demeanor at all times
  • Must obtain MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) certification within 90 days of hire

Job Specific Duties:

  • Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and procedures related to psychiatric admissions and confidentiality, in accordance with College Medical Center Phoenix policies.
  • Accurately register patient information and verify insurance benefits for all admissions, documenting details such as contact names, phone numbers, and authorization information.
  • Confirm that all required HIPAA elements are complete and accurate within the admission system.
  • Review and correct admissions reports for accuracy, including authorization numbers, financial classes, and scanned documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Utilization Review Department and nursing units to confirm patient bed, room, and charge status, addressing any issues promptly.
  • Monitor and log daily point-of-service (POS) collections, ensuring accurate documentation and collection of co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance amounts.
  • Provide financial counseling to patients, explaining hospital payment policies and estimating out-of-pocket costs.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, coworkers, and other departments to ensure a seamless admission and billing process.
  • Maintain professionalism, organization, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment while treating all patients and families with dignity and confidentiality.
  • Support teamwork and collaboration within the Patient Admitting department to promote a positive and unified work environment.

Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for CMC Phoenix roles, including but not limited to shift differential and other special pay practices, etc. The posted compensation for the position is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay that CMC Phoenix in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.
