Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for College Medical Center roles, including but not limited to shift differential and other special pay practices, etc. The posted compensation for the position is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay at College Medical Center in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.

Provides and maintains a level of security that will insure the safety and sense of security for all patients, visitors, and staff members of the hospital. Maintains an effective and efficient security force which helps provide an environment conducive for achieving quality patient care.

· One year experience as an on-site Security Officer preferred.

· Knowledge of general security functions and legal limitations.

· Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills in English.

· Basic skills in physical restraint and self defense.

· Current Guard card.

· Must complete CPR and MAB requirements within 90 days of hire.

Frequent walking, bike riding, standing, bending, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional pushing and pulling up to 200 pounds with assistance. Must be able to participate in takedowns (Code Grey). Corrected vision and hearing to a normal range. Finger dexterity. Constant exposure to stressful situations. Constant patient contact.

Frequent exposure to noise. Occasional exposure to dirt, dust, smoke, and fumes. Occasional exposure to cold, heat, chemicals, and general cleaning chemicals. Rare exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Shift hours may vary dependent upon the department needs to include weekends and holidays.

General Staff Accountabilities

· Provides appropriate notice prior to vacation/time off, and notifies supervisor a minimum of two hours prior to shift when unable to come to work.

· Observes allotted break and meal periods as prescribed by Hospital Policy and follows time clock procedures by accurately clocking in and out.

· Attends to personal affairs to avoid any interference with productivity.

· Adheres to the Dress Code.

· Follows the occurrence reporting policy and procedure in reporting any potential safety issues.

· Demonstrates an understanding of personal role in the case of a fire/disaster, and participates in Performance Improvement activities.

· Functions with an awareness of patient safety issues and applies basic principles of safety as identified within the facility.

· Effectively patrols buildings and grounds of hospital to prevent theft, vandalism and fires.

· Responds promptly to emergency calls for assistance to control disorderly conduct of combative patients, visitors or personnel in the lobby and parking lot.

· Effectively maintains accurate log of all activity.

· Courteously questions all persons on hospital property who are not authorized for access.

· Responds promptly to all emergency alerts.

· Promptly escorts visitors and employees to and from parking areas. Maintains availability for escort service especially during evening shift.

· Properly inspects all security equipment on a weekly basis and reports all malfunctioning equipment promptly.

· Consistently demonstrates thorough knowledge of and ability to apply hospital safety and security policies and procedures.

· Effectively demonstrates ability to use proper techniques in controlling disorderly or combative patients, visitors or personnel.

· Effectively demonstrates understanding of major functions of all hospital departments in order to promptly route hospital guests.

· Consistently demonstrates ability to use security issued equipment appropriately.

· Consistently demonstrates ability to assess a situation from a variety of perspectives and chooses an appropriate course of action.

· Constantly assesses hospital grounds and all work areas in the hospital for potential fire and safety hazards and reports any hazards promptly.

· Initiates maintenance requests when needed.

· Effectively follows up on any information necessary to complete investigation or reports.

· Regularly reviews departmental procedures and forms and makes effective recommendations for positive changes.

· When stationed in the lobby, constantly ensures the safety of all visitors, patients physicians and co-workers; immediately informs appropriate department when incoming patients arrive; and effectively assists clinical staff with wanding of visitors prior to evaluation.

· Effectively performs additional duties and responsibilities as position requires.

· Exhibits behavior that is courteous, compassionate, polite, friendly, and respectful towards patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers and extends self to make patients, visitors, clinical staff, and peers feel welcome and respected.
