Job Summary
We are seeking one full-time Nurse Educator for College Medical Center Phoenix. The Nurse Educator provides approved clinical services under the direction of the CNO and leads the development, coordination, supervision, and administration of Clinical Nursing Education Services. Key focus areas include behavioral health education such as suicide risk assessment and prevention, seclusion and restraint standards and documentation, crisis de-escalation techniques, therapeutic communication, and psychotropic medication education (indications, monitoring, and side effects). Responsibilities also include preparing correspondence, data collection/entry, report preparation, answering phones, receiving visitors, scheduling appointments, maintaining files, and conducting special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
- Master’s degree in Nursing, Nursing Education, Nursing Leadership, or Psychiatric Nursing preferred
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Arizona (or compact license)
- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing (inpatient setting strongly preferred)
- Experience in staff education, professional development, or clinical instruction
- Proficiency in behavioral health nursing practices including suicide prevention, de-escalation, and trauma-informed care
- Strong communication, presentation, coaching, and organizational skills
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and Learning Management Systems (LMS)
- Current certifications in BLS and crisis intervention (e.g., CPI or equivalent)
Job Specific Duties
- Develop and deliver onboarding, orientation, and continuing education for nursing and allied clinical staff, with a focus on behavioral health care standards and safety.
- Collaborate with the nurse leaders to assess unit-specific educational needs and align learning programs with hospital goals.
- Design competency-based education, including simulations, skills validation, and trauma-informed care training.
- Provide clinical coaching and mentoring at the bedside to reinforce safe, therapeutic, and effective psychiatric care.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on behavioral health topics, including suicide risk, seclusion/restraint, de-escalation, therapeutic communication, and psychotropic medication education.
- Track and evaluate the effectiveness of education through staff performance metrics, patient safety outcomes, and regulatory compliance results.
- Participate and assist the clinical team with workforce development planning, staff retention strategies, and compliance with licensure and accreditation standards (e.g., CIHQ, CMS, State of Arizona).
- Coordinate with HR and leadership to ensure nursing staff meet ongoing mandatory training and certification requirements.
- Contribute to policy and protocol development by integrating current best practices and clinical standards.
- Participate in hospital committees, performance improvement projects, and incident reviews to support a culture of safety and continuous learning.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer or hospital leadership.
Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for CMC Phoenix roles, including but not limited to shift differential and other special pay practices etc. The posted compensation for the position is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay that CMC Phoenix in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting.
